Movement: 26 Jewel cal.1520 automatic.
A very rare vintage Rolex wristwatch in exceptional condition, with a stainless steel `Oyster` case and the original expanding riveted bracelet.
Why is it rare?
1. After finding just how many WW2 pilots were buying Rolex watches to replace less reliable timepieces, the Air-King was produced by Rolex primarily as a pilot watch. They proved so robust and reliable that in the early 60’s this 5500 model was also produced as the `Explorer` wristwatch, a name made famous after being worn on the first successful attempt to climb Everest.
2.. The Rolex dial has Arab numerals.
3. It still has the original riveted expanding `Oyster` bracelet.

In 1952, with the advent of regular commercial transatlantic flights, Pan American Airlines approached Rolex to produce a wristwatch capable of simultaneously showing the exact time in two different time zones.The result was the GMT-MASTER. The gold hand with the large triangular pointer moves around the dial once every 24 hours and when used in conjunction with the 24 hour rotating bezel, the time can be set for any world-time-zone.
Stainless steel case, with 14ct gold bezel and screw down crown together with a black leather strap with gold plated Rolex buckle. In superb condition and with a twelve month guarantee.
